Unconventional kitchen– planning the sink wall.
The last month at our house has been like a carnival from 1923.
Full of delight and whimsy and shiny things.
All revealed to be crap, in the light of day.
I love crap.
So much.
It’s my favorite thing.
I have run the idea-carousel day and night.
The bearded lady is surprisingly into brass.
The strongman looks like Howard Keel.
The huckster marches around, harassing the patrons.
COTTON CANDY!
TEST YOUR STRENGTH!
STORE THE GRAINS IN ANTIQUE BRASS COFFEE BEAN DISPENSERS.
OR BUY NEW ONES.
MOUNT THEM TO THE WALL.
ON EACH SIDE OF THE MIRROR.

DIANA VREELAND’S LIVING ROOM
THE ORIGINAL DIOR ATELIER
Daily, I have submitted to Paul, a flurry of 27,000 pages of incoherent sketches and design ideas for backsplash/mirror/open shelving amalgamations.
Marble, on top of subway tile, on top of train racks, on top of my very FINEST and most IMAGINARY brass brackets… a design and style I have determined conclusively do not exist ANYWHERE.
57,000 hours of my life I’d like to have back.
No matter.
Library ladders.
Why do I not have already, seven in each room?
I have filled the sink wall a thousand times over.
I have rearranged the fountains and hedgerows and marble baptismal fonts.
All of the marble baptismal fonts.
There can be none left for anyone else.
I swapped out the brass coffee bean dispensers for antique glass candy display jars… THE REALLY GIANT ONES.
SO MUCH MORE PRECARIOUS.
Then.
In a shocking plot twist.
Paul inadvertently clarified the murk of glittery shelving and endless fancy storage ideas.
By asking me– if you don’t want a kitchen-looking-kitchen… why add all this visible-kitchen-stuff?
Why indeed?
Oh, wait.
There’s an answer:
Because I am unsure I will have ENOUGH storage.
So.
We need to score some cabinets on craigslist and do a mockup.
One last thing.
Sometimes I see The Nuclear War of Fanciness, out of the corner of my eye… and Self seizes me by the arm WITH COVETEOUS ANXIETY– do you see that?
She has not yet fully absorbed that no further action is required.
I mention this because I would like to share some newfound-wisdom that you might find helpful:
Owning that which you most covet.
This is the best way.

Just the RIOTOUS LAUGHTER I needed this morning!!
Thank you for your brilliance, you glittering carousels, 76 trombones, and Howard Keel.

I thought you were remaking the Billy Joel “We didn’t start the fire” song. Your post seems similar in cadence! Haha!!!

I’m kinda glad I’m not you! LOL! I’m perfectly fine with a utilitarian kitchen, although I wish mine were about 600 sq. ft. larger. That’s all I want. I’d much rather spend the big bucks on quality foodstuffs I could use to prepare unforgettable meals and desserts! And I would also like a full time gardener. Worth my money, for sure! However, I just love your incredible mind!

Just a thought: kitchens are overrated; eating is for wimps. Scrap the whole kitchen idea and instead build a glorious library, complete with painted ceiling and marble floors, similar to the picture shown in your post! And, bonus! The mirror that you ALREADY HAVE will look wonderful in it!!!

I love the extra-deep base cabinets, with sppliance garages on the countertop. Suggest that Paul and you lay out the arrangement of the contents of the cabinets, and appliances on the countertops as you’d like to have them, and both photograph the layouts and take measurements that way. I also love the coffee dispensers, but how many kinds of grain do you actually cook with?
Research Hoosier cabinets while you’re at it.

Hi Victoria, not sure if you have already bought your induction stove. But I just read an interesting article about EMF waves and the health risks associated. Check out Dr. Mercola’s website for an interesting study and research between EMF waves and cancer…..

I love the new location of the GFT mirror. It echoes the GFT bookcase in the dining room. And it would give reflection of light and the garden out the new back windows. I can’t wait to see this kitchen finished. Do you have room for a GFT armoire for added storage?

Girl you are hilarious and I love you for brightening my day and most importantly expanding my mind! I love how you think outside of the box, in order to optimize usage of GFTs, which…. Why do things any other way???

I love looking @ your Pins and trying to guess which bits you will choose to use. Quite the game.
