There’s no party like a mirror party… *video*
The thing about this mirror frame.
Is that it weighs a ton.
And.
The thing about the glass.
Is that it also weighs a ton.
And.
Apparently, all of this is fine and I have not yet reached the furthest limits of what I am able to acquire, as will be evidenced by an upcoming post, for which I have a sponsor, because failure was not an option.
Here is my post about getting the mirror.
Here is my post where it changed the kitchen layout.
Now.
Giant mirror.
In one piece.
Behold.
Video.
I should have more to say about this mirror installation.
Considering there was scaffolding.
But my brain is useless.
Dismantling the kitchen, hobbiting in the basement, living in chaos, DELAYED CHAOS, then getting it all back together to have my brothers and bff come to stay… followed by Paul’s family… on the surface all that seemed like terrible timing… but it turned out to be perfect.
After the floors, I would have been compelled anyway, to do the kind of cleaning that makes all the other people in your house hate you… so the combination of houseguests, and the POSSIBILITY of everything being “right” made the effort… not fun, but SATISFYING
ESPECIALLY because I’ve been de-hoarding for the last 6 months… an unexpected shift in perspective that I am ASTOUNDED by.
My entire life I have been PLAGUED by the “i save crap” gene.
Then one day I looked around and was like— why all this crap. bye.
It is not about having fewer things.
It is about having less crap.
Anyway.
Life has been chaotic and I was REALLY looking forward to TODAY— a return to real life and sanity and no other people… and our car was stolen FROM the driveway, this morning at 4am.
Paul heard something and got up— prepared to rage about how the kittens do not respect sleep… he got to see the van drive out of the driveway.
So I am totally enjoying the return to real life.
Suggestions for home surveillance video cameras?
I googled it but cloud storage, text alerts, infrared… ugh… please spoonfeed me… pressure sensors to go anywhere, alerts if someone steps on your doormat… although even if we had that, neither of us would see a text at 4am.
Right now am feeling this kind which has BOTH floodlights AND a camera AND a speaker so you can talk your intruder to death… and if that doesn’t work, there is a siren.
FYI: we are olds with no Alexa and I do not need it to pair with my thermostat… But if you tell me some other thing to go along with my new maximum security facility, I will listen. I am an Amazon person… but also an Apple person.
I do not care what it looks like. We have no home phone line. We do have motion detectors, but we are getting more because building Alcatraz after the fact is totally reasonable.
Also, WHY someone steals a FIFTEEN-year-old VAN… WHY!?
Literally, no one BUT ME could possibly WANT that car. WHY!?
It was perfect for cats and flowers and hauling STUFF.
Also, it worked.
Mad.
Also, I am extra mad that I JUST FILLED THE GAS TANK AND I HATE GETTING GAS BECAUSE IT IS SO TEDIOUS AND UNBEARABLE.
Anyway. I have much other to tell you, but now have to insurance; so brief updates so you are not in the dark:

Porch kitty is good!
She healed well and is back outside (her preference) with Mister.
Webster has been adopted.
I’m looking forward to telling you more, once I get my brain back!!!
I have the very sweetest kittens ever.
I thought I might be able to socialize some (other) kittens… I ended up TNR-ing them. Feelings.
I have a new idea about kitchen cabinets that I think everyone will hate… I am letting it marinate to see if it is glorious. Or idiocy.
I have run out of the ability to edit words.

I’m so sorry to hear about your van. I’m sure you feel violated, more than anything. Ugh. Hope your insurance is good to you.
Love, love, love the mirror. So spectacular. You will have The Best Kitchen.
Glad to hear Webster’s adoption went through, although I’ll miss seeing him!
Love the new sweeties on Instagram.

Sorry to hear some thug took away your mode of getting GFT’s, that is traumatizing, even if they did not enter the house. (Thank goodness for that!) Hoping they find it intact, and just used for a joyride by some teen punk.
We live in a private subdivision, and are at the end of the street – kinda remote from other homes, and I am nervous every time I hear a vehicle come down the street after dark. No reason for anyone to be out there except police, but I think we have someone who is up to either using drugs or having an intimate time. Not regularly, but still…… it alarms me. Thinking about broaching the security thing with hubby, but he’s a non-believer in safety first, because he’s cheap. Also, we are retired folks and don’t understand all this new tech-y stuff very well.
Great job on the mirror! I would be terrified to be handling that big piece of glass! Love the new kitties, saw them on IG, falling asleep on their backs, so cute I said “AWWW” out loud! Glad to hear Webster found a home and porch kitty is back where he/she loves to be.

I work w/geeks.. geeks love toys.. this was a kickstarter campaign that went fabulously.. i now have 5 of these cameras around my house because the geeks suggested them. They are cheap.. easily installable.. easily watch able.. lots of options and alerts or you can completely tone them down. It comes w/free online storage that you can download if you need…. otherwise it goes away in 14 days. You also have the option of inserting a sim card. Added benefit? you can live watch what your animals are doing while you are away on your phone.. that alone was worth the cost of a couple cameras.

Why can’t I pull up any of the videos on chrome, explorer, or safari? I can’ t play them on my laptop OR my Iphone. So sad!

I can always play the videos so I wonder if it is your anti virus or pop up blocker or something with windows defender? Not computer savvy so just a thought?

I am not tech savvy either. I was able to view it on my husband’s computer without sound, which was better than nothing. Thanks Judy!

I love watching you to dance. We had a burglar alarm but it was stolen ( true, I think it was the builders)

I adore your videos almost as much as I adore those new kittens! And yes, once you get the kitchen all done up, Paul’s net project will be a ballroom so we can haz ALL the dancing videos!
I am so sorry about your van. I wish I had some good security doo-dad advice, but I live in the South, and if someone comes on my property and acts up, I get to shoot ’em, so we have no need of such things. Maybe you need a car alarm on the new vehicle?
This too shall pass, and I bet you get an even better van than the one you had!

Has anyone else thought the kittens have mad eyes? Beware VEB they may be plotting rebellion or mayhem or maybe they stole the Van to search for GF-mice?
The dancing is superb, the mirror spectacular and the whole post as usual was hilarious and made my day. Hey-instead of writing a book you and Paul should make a Movie!
Kind of a Paul Hardy and VEB Laurel production. I can just see you “I’m ready for my close up-Mr. DeMille”Paul can play Clark Gable…Frankly Scarlet, I don’t give a damn, although I’m sure your script would top anything of that Era. The dialogue was pretty corny.

So we were robbed at home while we slept…very unsettling to know people were rummaging through our stuff and helping themselves whist we slept so now have cameras installed around the perimeter of house with cameras hooked up to our internet which record everything. My hubby ordered everything from alibaba which is way cheaper than amazon and everything is made in China anyway. As he is an amateur electrician he installed it himself.

No. 1 – I love your kitchen posts and can hardly wait to see your beautifully completed kitchen.
No. 2 – BUMMER about the stolen van! I don’t know if your normally parked your van outside, but there is
now a device available to thieves where they are able to remotely unlock ALL cars. They simply drive
down the street, constantly pressing the unlock button, and choose their car.
No. 3 – Your readers are right about thoroughly researching security systems and security cameras. There is a
myriad of choices out there. I’m not a techy, so I cannot offer any advice where that is concerned. I live
in an old house, so wifi does not work well for me. I did install security cameras, around the perimeter
of my house about five years ago, along with my burgler alarm, and have a monitor in my home office
which records everything 24/7. It’s a monitored system – burgler alarm, fire alarm, everything. And it’s
hardwired. I love it, and your should get a discount on your homeowner’s insurance. I’m also on
nextdoor.com, so I get notifications from my neighbors about goings on in my neighborhood. (Do I
sound a bit paranoid? I probably do because someone threatened me. Not a pleasant thing, for sure.)
I highly recommend getting one.
No. 4 – LOVED what Darling Lily said about living in the South! I live in politically correct California, where
everyone except legal residents who are taxpayers are protected. (I know – I shouldn’t venture into the
political arena, especially now days, but it’s such a violation to have someone enter your private
property and take something that does not belong to them. Oh well, it’s not your person and that is the
most important thing.)
No. 5 – I miss reading about sweet Webster. : > ( If I did not already have two adult male kitties who don’t do
well with other kitties, I would have flown to Philadelphia and adopted him myself.
Thanks for the always witty and entertaining post, Victoria. Cheers to you and Paul!

The proper spelling for all the stuff you got rid of is “crappe.” You are welcome 😉

A police officer once told me that thieves steal vehicles for two reasons, primarily. One reason is to part them out and sell the parts, with certain vehicles more likely to be targeted. The second reason–pertinent to your van–is that they need a vehicle to move something or to get some place. Those usually come back to you when the thieves are done with them. So infuriating.

Geez… I’ve always thought my 20 year old car was safe from being stolen/broken into because why would someone want a hunk of junk like that anyway? I hate driving it enough as it is and I’m the one who owns it, I can’t imagine risking jail time to actually STEAL it. But clearly people will steal anything, including your old van… Hopefully you find out who did it and get it back, but I suppose there’s not much chance of that.
