VEB – I have lost more than one of my kitties to feline leukemia (and feline aids). Unfortunately, its part of the risks when you take in the unwanted and love them. Immediately. It is not a kind death and especially when it’s a baby. Cleaning and scrubbing has to be part of your process to exercise those images and sounds that haunt you. But know this, the kittens that are coming will be okay and won’t get sick because you missed a germ. Many, many will thrive. Some won’t and it won’t be your fault. I hope you can let go of those bad times and know that without you, their little lives would have been much, much worse. You have given the ones that grow up a chance for a happy life. The others have known love and happiness even for a short period. But not matter what, your house is a refuge and a home. Not harboring death. I just wanted to say something that I hope helps you and relieves even a tiny part of your anxiety. You are doing such a good and brave thing; you deserve to know how much other people – people that have never met you – see that and appreciate it.

Victoria I am so sorry for your loss. There is a vaccine available for the virus. While cleaning everything is cathartic, the best thing is to vaccinate, it will save you from having your heart broken, and it will prevent the tragedy you witnessed. Take care of yourself.

Oh, please know that those kittens’ lives were made meaningful by YOU! You alone gave them time, love and compassion…put that in your heart and keep it. Thank you for all you do and your diligent work to save homeless pets. Most of all, please take some time to heal and take care of you – there is truly only one of you, VEB!
