    I read another home decor blog and that writer goes through her home on occasion taking out most of the little decor (tabletop stuff, some wall decor) to gain some visual rest so she can decide what to put back in. She calls it “quieting” the house. I think you’re on the right track with the term. Our eyes need rest as much as our ears.

    I’m with you! I love it plain because it IS peaceful. White wicker would look nice for a few pieces of relaxing furniture. What a neat place to escape to, even on wintry days-it’s so bright and cheerful. 🙂

    Looking good. My vote is to carry the eggnog color onto all the ceilings in that room. Cocoon it.

    DAF, that is a perfect name for that color – eggnog.

    It’s a beautiful space, serene and calming, somewhat like a cathedral.

    I read the Dress Lodger at your suggestion a while back and liked it too, so your others are now on my list as well!

    I HIGHLY recommend “The Various Flavors of Coffee” by Anthony Capella — no, the main character is not a woman struggling, etc, but there are many secondary female characters whose lives are circumscribed by society’s rules and expectations.

    Capell must have been a food writer in a former life — his descriptions of food, flavors and aromas are unlike anything I’ve ever read. And the plot is broad and sweeping and all things good. I’ve read all his books (well, the last time I looked I had read all his books, but he may have a few more poking about) and it’s fun to see him progress as a writer – plots especially are increasingly more complex

    Let me know what you think if you decide to give it a try!

    What did you use to strip the newel post and railing? Something non-toxic? I love the stain color!

    If you like historical fiction I highly recommend “golden hill” by Francis spufford, which is about 1740’s New York City. It is splendid.

    Victoria, the 3rd floor empty “ballroom” is splendid. Host a costume ball for your dancing friends before furnishing.

    A need to know question;

    What kind of paint was Paul rolling out on the floor?

    “Various shades of eye violence”
    I just spit out my tea!!!
    I love perusing Real Estate listings, dreaming of a big old house at the end of a dirt road, with a massive barn and hoards of animals running rampant around my land… dreamy… anyway. Most times I can’t even make it a few images in before I’m huffing and puffing at the interior shots of “eye violence “
    You’ve officially given it a name… I thank you ❤️
