You’re right, it’s the secret world of bloggers, the stuff that you have to go through in order to gain other blogger’s respect. Think of it as a rite of passage. But, be careful you don’t spill too much of the beans, because then you’re going to discourage would be bloggers from ever thinking they could do what you do. Heck, I’ve been blogging since 2002, and if I shared all this insider info with you, would you really have had the guts a year ago to just go for it? No, I don’t think so – that’s the real secret of blogging – ignorance is bliss.

I am a total control freak… had I known there was SO much to it, I would have started reading, and never even gotten around to a blog… but you’re right, you don’t need to have mastered any of this stuff… and moving to .org really gave me a huge appreciation for how AMAZING .com is. The service they provide is pretty astonishing!!

What is up with that, right? I mean, the blog set-up should come with some basic instructions just so you don’t spend six months shooting yourself in the foot!!

Sorry to be late to the party – this is wonderful stuff. I spent most of my weekend reading your blog. I’m not a home refurbish-er aside from the boring paint and crown moulding, but your writing style is hysterical! I’m going to add you to my blogroll just as soon as I figure out how to do that 🙂 I agree with one of the above comments – world domination of the blogosphere will be yours.

I’ve been telling myself I’ve actually achieved world domination… and it’s just a lot quieter than I thought it would be.

Aww, thank you! Be gentle on yourself about the world domination thing. I hear that takes time. Meanwhile, I’m sharing your blog on FB!

Lol! I’m right there with you when it came to uploading pics in the beginning. My pics were huge and running off the page. Then I realized that I should probably do something about that. Visiting from SITS Sharefest!

Not sure if you’re familiar with Windows Live Writer? It’s a great program that re-sizes your pics for you and puts a watermark on them as well. I’ve been using it for a while and I love it.

Best tech post ever! I’ve been blogging for years and you have more figured out than me. I’d say you’re on your way to famous. 🙂 loved that you kept it humorous as you shared, so much better learning that way 🙂

Hilarious! And also filled with great gems for us who are new-ish to the game. When I learned about “inspect element” it blew my mind. And also has been quite useful. I absolutely love your images – they cracked me up!

I’ve been blogging for 2 years but there’s some new stuff here that I didn’t know. But it’s Sunday afternoon and I need a nap so I’m going to bookmark this article and come back when I’m fresh and can absorb it. Thank you for sharing. I think I’m going to learn a lot.

    Visiting from SITS.

This article was so helpful! I love your sense of humor–especially about how you’re always thinking about blogging (even during conversations with others). I’m guilty of that myself! Happy blogiversary and thanks for sharing your knowledge!

Victoria, thank you so much for sharing this. Yes, I have a blog that is malnourished (meaning that I started creating it over a year ago; but, I haven’t fed it anything yet). I write & have saved files of my writing for years. There is a lot going on in my life right now; so, I keep putting it off. Just need to jump in. Your tips will be helpful in doing so,

    Victoria,
Can I be you? No, seriously. I have a cute husband and three (almost always) terrific kids. They can be yours if you will surrender this blog to me 🙂

I don’t read a lot of blogs because I instantly feel inferior. I started my blog months ago and have proceeded to post only a few things (although every thought that rolls around in my head gets turned into “Hey, I should write about that!”) If only I would…

I will be printing your tips and maybe I will be able to create what I want. I am unhappy with the look of mine, but am terrified of the .org thing. I have a masters degree for God’s sake- but am convinced I can not possibly figure it all out.

You are an inspiration! A very, very talented inspiration. I can’t wait to keep on reading…

I don’t keep a blog anymore because coming up with new baked goods every week turned into torture, but I read this anyway because you write well. You’re amusing. See? That means you’re doing a good job.
BTW, Batman’s face looks like it’s made out of playdoh. Seriously, look at that skin texture there. WTF dude. Go exfoliate.

Do you know what else someone needs to tell you? Or call your attention to? Or point out to you? The stupid, selfish, self-centered, money only driven Theme designers have really done a lot of people wrong when they designed these “newish” themes with artsy-fartsy pale colors. Those of us with vision issues, and over-40 vision loss have to really struggle to see light pale grey type color on pale beigeish background. Ugg!!!! Who cares what you strive to write or say to us if it is so hard to read that we click off. PLEASE (yes I’m shouting) dark black type color on a white background only is the way to stand out and show that you care.

Thank you SO MUCH for telling me about the alt text thing on my pictures! OMG! I had no idea. And now it’s actually allowing me to search through my pictures by key word, thanks to a plugin I found, since Wordpress doesn’t include alt text in their search…

Thank you for such simple and straightforward tips, especially about the pictures. I just started blogging about 7 months ago and am trying to get a little more tech savvy about it to increase my audience. Love your blog…I got sucked into it after my husband sent me a link to your post about the Kingdom mirror. 🙂

Thank you for this post…all of a sudden I don’t feel so alone anymore! I’m exactly the same when it comes to thinking about blogging (just started my blog a month ago) and it might be turning into an obsession (Nah, I’m just very passionate). And yes…alt tags I never knew until about a week ago. I’ve never imagined I’d spend HOURS reading about Html codes and meta descriptions and alt images. Yes, we can 😀
