Only in America could someone comment on corporate greed and get called out for being political. These two things should not be synonymous.
    Rock on, Victoria.

Powder coating is the way to go. I’ve had several outdoor iron pieces – some quite old – powder coated, and I couldn’t be happier. (Please Victoria, don’t venture into the political swamp. You have a wonderful, witty, clever blog about your house, cats, husband, etc., that people enjoy reading. Politics is a toxic subject.) I love reading about your adventures, and I hope you are not offended by my input.

I grasped early on that Victoria is a highly intelligent, well read lady. Instead of criticizing her for her “politics,” perhaps people could take the opportunity to learn from her.

My mom has those same plant stands that once belonged to my great uncle. We don’t know much about them. What can you tell me? Hers are painted black and we aren’t sure exactly where he got them as he loved to visit all sorts of estate sales, flea markets, and antique stores. Some of his treasures we weren’t sure were anything and some we were pretty convinced were just junk. Sometimes it’s a fine line

Unfortunately, the news is rarely THE NEWS. Often it is opinion and talking points. Back when my dad watched his evening one hour, they only had time to give you the truth. Twenty four hour news leaves lots of time for filler, fluff, and falsehoods. All the networks are guilty of this. I wonder if they realize the divisiveness they cause in our country. Shame, Shame, everyone knows ALL their names!

V., LOVE the magic you bring to our lives with your blog! Yippee on the new cast furniture!

.Why oh Why Karyn do you arrive at the door of another person’s home and insist they believe as you do? I would recommend just enjoying the kittens and the dancing. We the readers who agree completely that our country is going to hell in a handbasket are thrilled to find a blog with the guts(intestinal fortitude} to state that truth and suggest literature that addresses the topic. I am so suspicious of these strange aggressive comments that attempt to squelch truth since this would be a definite strategy of Putin’s minions. Did anybody see the two mass murderers high fiving each other at the latest summit with Trump in the background trying to look tyrannical? These guys are eating his lunch and he is clueless because they “like” him? Duh?

Too bad. I knew chances were probably not good that politics would be left by the wayside, but I so hoped they would be. Yes, I know it’s your blog, VEB, and that you can do anything you want to with it, but I did have hopes that you would be happy to use it to bring people who love beauty together, especially after the dustup a couple of months ago. Politics polarize people. It brings out the worst in some. The same thing is happening in the comments I’m reading today that happened then. People get ugly and you’re encouraging that now on your blog. You have every right to choose your audience and your topics and I’m sure you’ll do just fine. I separate politics from beauty and joy because I want to celebrate and take in the good. In a world that is so caught up in ugliness and pain, filled with “us” and “them”, the relief of being able to read and look at things that inspire and encourage is a necessity for me. Mixing doesn’t work for me, isn’t worth the unpleasantness. Your home is a wonderful project and I wish you joy and success as you continue making it your own.

Someone said that Democracy will not end with a bang but with a whimper, how in the world can our freedoms be held sacred and inviolate if we the people “don’t want to talk about it,it’s just too too divisive, upsetting, makes me have to think and thinking makes my head hurt? ” What we need is some more “stuff” and an episode of new jersey housewives…those girls are so funny and I feel so superior when I see what bad taste in clothes they exhibit. Bread and circuses folks- keep them fed and entertained and they will happily drink whatever kool aid is being served. Climate change, voter suppression, hatred of all who are not “us”. faux news-pay no attention…..go buy something you’ll feel so much better.

I purchased a pair of “chair gliders” that look like your furniture at an estate sale many years ago. Unfortunately, I had a retail home decor & antique shop and sold them……….wishing I had kept them as they were so fun! TFS your find! Politics–pooh! Not here please or I will be gone.

If the politics continue I will not continue to read. The other side thinks the same about George Soros and one side is not smarter than the other. We need to stop the nonsense and quick thinking our way of thinking is the only way. Both sides have have great ideas to move this country forward, but we need to stop thinking if you don’t agree you are the enemy.

Ya know, when VEB talks about animals and veganism, she’s taking a political position. We have laws about ranching and farming and food and circuses. VEB protests on these issues sometimes. I’m an omnivore, so I skim those parts. Sometimes I agree with her, sometimes I don’t.

I don’t worry about whether or not VEB and I agree about EVERYTHING: I enjoy her remodeling and cats and book recommendations and family stories and videos, etc. An occasional subject matter that I disagree with is NOT a big deal. I would never dream of telling her to knock off the vegan posts and stick to remodeling.

Telling someone to repress themselves and their opinions on THEIR BLOG is really rude. You can comment on her posts, you can agree or disagree with her, but telling her how to run her blog is not acceptable. Telling her to stifle herself is mannerless. If that means you stop reading her blog, so be it. Go start your own.

MBM- I’m just curious,do you have any interest in Politics? Do you vote? what is your source for truth about the various issues facing America and our beautiful Planet? What is so off putting in Victoria’s legitimate concerns about these issues. In supporting Victoria’s positions,I would never presume to force any other person to do the same. The most surprising aspect of the opposing comments is the anger and resentment expressed, rather than just stating why they disagree they demand the writer provide only content that is acceptable to them, and stop posting what they do not like or they will cease following. This seems so strange to me-back when my Husband and I were young we attended a fair amount of house parties through some turbulent times-Vietnam,Assassinations,Civil Rights et al and we had some heated discussions but no one ever suggested that anyone just shut up and keep their opinions to themselves. That would have been the height of rudeness and incivility. Sorry to keep commenting but I truly would like to understand how anyone feels entitled to be so dictatorial in someone else’s space? I wonder if it’s that bubble mentality that if I just shut out anything scary life will be grand and I need not worry.

      Hi Judy,
You and Mary Lang are women after my own heart. I cannot get over some of these comments saying VEB is “tiresome”, “ticking off 50% of her readers”, and “encouraging ugly comments” when all she did is recommend a book that she is reading!

LOL, I’d bet that just like me, you may still be waiting for that Soros check for attending a march or working for a D candidate.

I have enjoyed the VEB for some time and actually get very excited to find a new post in my email !!! I have become more and more politcal over the years as I am aging and have my sources where I search out opinion and facts, and they are all quite varied. While watching the entertainment industry become very political and outspoken, I have found that performers that I once loved, no longer shine in my opinion of them after making idiotic statements and political stances. It is far from entertaining to see and read divisive remarks and actions….to see people instigate hate and to belittle others and their beliefs. There are just some arenas where it very nice to go and to be free of polarizing political talk. I though that this was one place of fun, beauty, and serene glory of all things beautiful. But now the ugly has been allow in the door and it is not pretty. Sure, VEB and anyone else can post whatever they choose, but please do it where it is expected and pertinent. I don’t go to my Dr’s office or the hospital for political rants, I don’t go to political rallys for entertainment, I don’t go to church to talk about and learn more dollmaking and sewing skills. I don’t go to places of entertainment to get schooled about politics……I come here for enlightenment about beautiful things, opinions about gardening, home decor, collectibles along with some humor. Politics immediately changes the tone of the site, the poster and the readers…this is very disappointing and disheartening to see.

IMHO I don’t agree that Politics changes the tone of any situation,it is the perception of each person that affects what they hear or read. Anyone who agrees with VEB is naturally going to receive her words as true and positive toward seeking possible solutions to what Virginia and her readers believe are serious problems facing America and ultimately must be addressed and solved by our Politicians. Our Lawmakers. Politics informs every aspect of life in America. For those who disagree with the opinions expressed, why care. We are wrong and you are right -so ignore us and be confident in your own beliefs.

Agree 100% It actually makes me sad when politics are found in places that I don’t expect them to be. Once upon a time, the Internet was actually a good place to find indoor respite from the ugliness in the world. *sigh”.

Thank you for your blog, I read it regularly. When you haven’t posted for a little while I go back and read my favourite posts over again. I am happy to read everything you post as I see it not as entertainment, rather an on going discussion (a little one-side since this is my first post). Your life is different to mine and I really like having a small window into it. I hope you continue writing as long as it makes you happy. Thank you again.

If you’ve read Victoria this long and now decide her politics mean you can’t follow any longer, aren’t you choosing to let politics divide? This woman is seriously funny, so smart and an engaging writer. She is honest about her views and shares them openly with us. That’s a lot better than many politicians, and I think than blogs and websites that are worried about readers #1.
I’m following this person and she happens to have thoughts about not only kittens and home design, sorry if that bothers you. Possibly this woman whose thoughts you value on other subjects has something to say worth listening to and considering, but don’t let the door hit too hard on way out if you can’t be an adult and hear a viewpoint different from your own.
VEB, my husband and I laugh so hard when you describe navigating rehab with your partner. I can’t read out loud coherently at times, but he patiently waits. Just like Paul.

I love your blog–the stories about Paul, the cats, the giant fancy things never fail to entertain. I read your blog for those things, but understand that it’s your blog, and your right to post about anything that you choose, including politics. However, the addition of politics leads to some rather uncivil discourse–I’m specifically thinking of Tiffaney’s comments–there is surely no need to call people names because they have a different point of view.
