You are just like my 26 yo granddaughter, to a T. Her 17 yo cat had to be put down (heart problems), and she was absolutely devastated. He was a Main Coon and we called him King Tut (nickname). He WAS king! Very regal and smart! She had since he was a little kitten. So two months later she just had to have kittens, and we got two Calico. They are gorgeous and one is a bit more special. Nothing will ever take the place of Fluffy (so original huh), but it has been good for my GD. She’d love to foster some kittens, but it’s just not feasible right now.
This was a lovely post and I’m sorry about your Elvis–we know how it is, because we’ve BTDT, unfortunately. Best wishes with your kitty endeavors and I hope you find a wonderful, new cat you can love a lot!

Amen to the Craigslist thing. In May someone dropped off 4 kittens, maybe 4 weeks old, at the end of our long driveway. They hid among the stone hedgerow, and by the time I could coax them out, one had starved to death. We already have 2 cats and were leaving for vacation the next week, so there was no way we could adopt them. My husband put them on Craigslist, but immediately withdrew the ad when someone alerted him to the nefarious ways of some people who take free kittens. Then he called around and found a shelter with a great program. You take the kittens to one of the vet partners for a full physical, spaying, and shots, and then the shelter puts them in foster homes until they are adopted. They said that since it was early in kitten season, they had a long list of people waiting to adopt, so we felt great about the future of those precious kittens.

I love your posts, I stalk your giant fancy things, with love (and a tiny bit of jealousy) in my heart, I cried when I read about Elvis…this, by far, is my favorite post. Kittens remind me of all things warm and sweet and right with this world. I’m so happy for you, that you have an entire box full of lovies to keep you company and take the edge off of your sad. *big hugs*

We have four rescue animals 2 dogs, and recently 2 cats. I love my dog hs soooooo much and my oldest we adopted right before my dad passed. Caring for her made me leave my house, and it was incredibly difficult to do so. She was also my therapy dog helping me deal with the anxiety inspired night terrors. But the kitty’s are something else. They are nebelung cats, and love buckets. I’ve never considered myself a cat lover, but sweet girl (we adopted a brother and sister) is perfection. When she sneezed blood on me, one week after we got her I panicked and rushed her to the vet. An upper respiratory infection. But I was beside myself. They already had made themselves part of our family from the second we met them. Also my kids are obsessed with all our animals. It’s teaches them compassion and adopting adds another level to that.

No furkid is better than my Bagel (Beagle/Basset) Meatball who came from a kill shelter in Mineral, VA (epicenter of that earthquake that broke the Washington Monument). The earthquake was likely caused because his cuteness left the city.

Happy for you. Happy for Berla. Happy for the shelter. Happy for the three tuxes. Your fostering and the entries to your blog may open more hearts and homes than you can ever imagine.

Thank you for raising awareness on the possible perils animals face when people do not do the right thing while renominates their pets.

While I am deathly allergic to cats – I still love them (along with dogs, bunnies, ok – animals in general). I am so thrilled to see you fostering. What a great way to help your heart heal while helping other fur babies. I think Elvis would approve.

Thank you for helping the cause in so many ways.

So Sorry about Elvis. This line made me laugh though: “Paul and I were embarrassed for her… I mean, who hates kittens?”

Good for you fostering these beauties. So many shelters are strapped for resources and every bit helps.
On an aside, I cannot even imagine working in a kill shelter, but someone has to I guess.

we live in an old house in a historic small town downtown with several restaurants. restaurants = dumpsters = food source for feral cats. four years ago we bought a trap and started trapping cats and taking them to a low-cost vet clinic and had them spayed/neutered for $25. we’re up to 17 cats we’ve TNR. unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how you look at it) four of them (five, but one is so crazy timid i don’t count him) live on our porch. now when guests come to our house we think we’re crazy cat people (we kind of are i guess!) and then i start on my whole, ‘these are feral cats so they’re not really OUR cats but they live here because we fixed them! we’re controlling the pet population! blah blah blah’ and then they think we’re even crazier.
    oh well, their loss.

Elvis is truly boasting to all her new buds (not other cats, of course)about the wonderful parents she has…you have hearts of gold, and a sense of humor to match! Look forward to your posts and we all wish you well as your immense ability to love continues on with all the lucky felines to come.(who could have turned away from poor Berla, or those sweet kittens ; no wonder they are safe in your care!). Take care!
