You are redeemed,I thought you had become an ascetic hermit monk, living on small bowls of rice set outside your small cave-devoid of beauty, books and felines. Folding your one white t shirt and black tights endlessly in a mad search for minimalist perfection-nope- you are back twirling through life and marriage with the grandest of grand golden objet d’art. I am peeking my head up from a pit of despair into a new golden age of excess. Marvelous Darling- More cats- more dancing.

It is hard to believe that you have not entered that store! And now they are closing soon, so sad, and right in your backyard all this time! Perhaps it is for the best, you would be broke!

I love that Paul was the one who persuaded you to check out that store. Does he lie awake at night cursing his poor decision-making?

“Exciting news for you, sir: my wife is going to live here now.”

Laughed out loud so many times at this post.

Loved the story. “I hope you like cats!” LOL! Those are perfect for the kitchen and the mirror! Let that be a lesson for you, sometimes the worst looking places have the best stuff!

They’re beautiful. These are the kinds of beautiful, fancy, old things that one has access to if one lives in the eastern part of the country, or any part of the country with cities that were established in the 1800’s or earlier. Alas, I live in northern California, and although the city of San Francisco has been around for quite a while now, most of what one finds out here reflects more of our western heritage. I.E. , objects with a Spanish/Mexican feel – no, not this girl. Too primitive and unrefined. Log cabins, or houses in the mountains – even worse. Mid-century modern – sad, very sad. I keep waiting for this trend to go away, but it doesn’t show any signs of leaving soon. Well, at least I have an older house, one with some charm and character, so I suppose I should be thankful for that. Every day I thank God for sites like 1st Dibs and Chairish.

When I saw the lights you linked to on Amazon I thought, “ wait a minute. There is no fancy here. These are plain and utilitarian. OMG VEB has been body snatched!” No way would the real VEB settle for those, those….things! So relieved you got the lights of your dreams.

What?! Wait … where is Paul’s response? How could you not tell us? Possibly an entirely new post of his outrageous response? They’re beautiful and glad to see you writing again!

I wish you had published this 2 years ago when Charlie sold his building, I have never, nor do I ever expect to, find another shop like this. I made several trips into Philly over the last year, with the singular mission of visiting this shop, and each time filling my vehicle with lamps, and lights and parts and pieces. Now it is all gone ….sold in massive lots, all the hanging lights on the first floor, all the stuff in the basement, everything on the second floor. All gone..soon the shop will dissappear into the abyss of shops selling gimp masks and slices of salty pizza.

Happy you were finally able to acquire these. What an amazing looking shop–did he close?
Have been busy trapping & neutering 9 stray cats in our neighborhood as well as feeding them twice daily.
Found foster home for 2 of the kittens but no one wants the rest and I refuse to take them to our local shelter as they just euthanize them. They are all lovely cats & am having a man build an AFrame all insulated for them..in the meantime they are on my back covered porch (on the swing, under the swing. on wicker chair etc!!! Ha!! But the snow & cold have arrived. A friend said one is a Scottish ?–bent ears? and he is a love. They all are. Would love to bring them in but my cat is not happy about them at all (they get in now & then) and I am allergic to cats. Any advice would be appreciated as I worry about them all the time.

electric blanket set on low? Surround it with boxes or anything to keep the area out of the cold. They have heating pads for outdoor cats but nine needs something huge.

I don’t care what you do, or how you do it….. as long as I can come along for the virtual ride. I was laughing out loud… alone… in my office…. my dog…. OK I guess I wasn’t exactly alone…. But there was no other human…. and said dog got up to see what the hello! was going on and then grinned at me. My dog grinned! As I was laughing out loud… in the a fore mentioned office… alone with the exception of the also a fore mentioned goofily leering dog.

The sconces are fabulous. Giant. Shiny. Gold! Hypnotizing!
But they are yours now and off the table. So uh, heeeey yea, so would it be cool to talk about that pair of bronze lions on the floor next to the fancy, fancy sconces. I think I needs.

I am sure you have visited Stoudt’s Black Angus Antique Mall in Adamstown! There is a lamp section that is to die for. The town is filled with antique stores side by side!

Your posts make me smile. Especially the ones about the things you love and all their fanciness. Glad you were able to acquire the sconce set. I love old sewing machines myself, so I appreciate your stories about acquiring things.
