garbage disposal. I haven’t got one and have never met anyone who has one. I have a little caddy box which gets carried out to a heap in the garden. (compost) . Compost heaps are nice places for bugs to live. Still like your pics though. x

Could not live without my garbage disposal! And if you happen to accidentally turn it on with a spoon in it, well voila, instant serrated grapefruit spoons! (I now have a whole set!!)

I also live in England – no one, and I mean NO ONE here ( or Europe) has a garbage disposal …. it would be like throwing trash into your water pipe work, like chucking out everything that could make compost for your garden to grow …. we either compost it, recycle it, (or bin it [ā€œput it in the trash canā€] if absolutely necessary).
Waste of water, waste of electricity for our poor planet.

I thought my kitchen was passably fancy because I have a wine fridge. I was so wrong! I have to turn off my garbage disposal, boil water, turn on and off my faucet by touching it…Ridiculous! Im so glad I know about all these amazing things for when we get a house! Especially the floor sink pedal, thatā€™s genius!

Integrated…refrigerators..OMG! My refrigerator is so comparatively loathsome I want to bury it and just pretend that the cupboards are refrigerators.

I apppreciate your need to get things off the deck, but I am too short to reach the wall. Five feet tall, cabinet heights come to my rib cage now, so need things down and close. But I wanted to say the kitchen designer comes today at 3:00, and I have a host of information thanks to you. Also we have a one sided kitchen, so everything has to work for storage. And then we are going to go mostly upper cabinet free, due to the aforementioned height issues. Thank you for your trek through the possibilities, they are endless. Overwhelming.

have you thought about mounting the disposal switch inside the sink cabinet? or using a small toggle switch under the counter lip, drilled through the cabinet box? my sister is 4’10” I suggested she lower her cabinetry when she redoes her kitchen, because she mostly uses the table instead of counters, leaving nowhere to eat.

I see you’ve posted a LOT of Waterstone faucets. LOVE THEM! I’m an interior designer and have used them for some clients (but haven’t splurged like that for myself). Be aware that the finishes are finicky on Waterstone…their lacquered finishes are prone to failure (which is crazy, given how much they cost!!). Apparently there are only 3 or 4 of the raw metal faucets that people don’t complain about. But the unfinished bronze and brass looks best in historic homes anyway IMHO. Not that it really matters, but some people find it interesting to hear that Taylor Swift has an awesome Waterstone faucet in her own home.

I used to tell my ex-bf that being cold was not a character flaw. He remained unconvinced. However, thanks to the miracle of menopause, I’m much warmer (sometimes) than I used to be.

    Love you, love your show.

Why donā€™t you have a whole-house water filter installed? It is much less expensive than you might think and then ALL your water (including your ice supply) is nice and filtered. Where we live itā€™s only around 1k to install and the replaceable filters are around $25 or 30. We only replace them about twice a year and itā€™s easy to do.

Iā€™m so with you in the fancy wall mount faucet but I would go with the simplest you can. My housekeepers can scratch anything, including the designer drains I put in the shower. Ugh! How does one do that with a plastic scrubbie?

Hot water at the faucet has never been a biggie for me. Doesnā€™t seem like it would be all that hot iykwim.

i have only one experience with Kingston Brass, and i am disappointed. we (well, our plumber) installed one of their faucets in our bathroom when we remodeled it in 2014. the cold knob now will barely turn and when it does turn, it won’t shut all the way off (drips), so we turned off the supply via the knob under the sink for the cold. the hot works still but is getting stiff and also occasionally leaks. barely 4 years in, i don’t think this is acceptable. we’re going to have the plumber out to see if he can repair it, but that of course just adds to the cost, since our plumber charges a minimum of a 1-hr visit, making the thing $100 more already. why not just replace it? well, i got polished nickel, but it needed to match the antique stuff in our bathroom (found a beautiful antique exposed shower & bath tub spigot, and all antique hardware for cabinetry). so i painstakingly antiqued the thing with a little bit of abrasion, chemical etching, and chemical tarnishing, so now, just like everything else in the bathroom, there’s not any super shiny nickel, and the brass underneath shows through in a few places. not that i’d have had the courage to do this to expensive plumbing, but i didn’t expect the thing to fail so soon. our kitchen faucet is from the 50s and still works fine. plumbing isn’t something you expect to fail. anyway, just know this about Kingston Brass, it may not have the longevity you’d expect from brass plumbing parts, so you may be served well finding some mid-range options, because that Waterstone brand is ridiculous. there’s got to be a good $500-1200 option out there! probably won’t find it in Amazon though.

also, i am on Paul’s side with the thermostat. šŸ˜‰

Perhaps I’ve watched too much science fiction (if there is such a thing), but some of those faucets look almost sentient. Like they’re one upgrade away from getting orders from Skynet.

Those are beautiful faucets, (and kitchens), all of them, but the faucet in the first photo, OMG – it’s GORGEOUS!!! I have never, EVER, seen a faucet like that. I can’t believe how you found all of these things Rosemary.

If I had really thought it thru I would have connected my reverse osmosis water filter to my pot filler faucet, it would have made so much more sense and I could have spread the things that take up so much room under my sink (add in the garbage disposal and thereā€™s zero room) out among 2 cabinets.

I have never researched faucets, but does the instant hot water HAVE to come out of the little curved spout? The unit that heats is under the sink, correct? Could you not feed it through any faucet that could be wall mounted?

Especially if you’re a tea drinker, DON’T buy the instant hot water dispenser. It never gets the water hot enough to make a good cup of tea and they break down quickly. My mom had one in the kitchen and one in the master bedroom ‘coffee bar’ and had to replace both after not too long. I never used them because I want my tea water boiled to make a good, strong cup of tea.

My sis got hot water dispenser for the folks to keep my dad from burning up tea kettles. Didn’t last long. Dad did like it for his INSTANT coffee (yuk) but never hot enough for tea. I use an electric kettle for mine, faster than the stove or -shudder- the microwave. Yes,
I know it sits on the counter but I deserve hot water for my tea. Whole house system for the water, yes! Nix on garbage disposals. As for that fancy faucet, free shipping is good. LOL

When we moved into our fixer two years ago, the kitchen was the most OK room in the house. We added a garbage disposal but weren’t about to drill through the granite to install an airswitch. So we installed it in the face of the sink cabinet, just below the edge of the counter. It works like a charm, and we don’t worry about it getting wet and electrocuting us like we would with a deck mount. All this to say, just because the instructions say it can’t be wall mounted doesn’t mean it has to go in the counter top.

We have our water filter mounted under the kitchen sink and connected to the cold water, so all cold water is filtered and nothing shows. No extra spouts. The Enviro 10-stage filter we use says it filter drinking water for a family of 4 plus the family pets for a year. So I am confident that it will filter all the cold water for just two of us for that same year. My big brother, who researches this stuff, says filter materials start to break down and release everything they have filtered back into the water after about a year and a half. So we replace the filter pretty rigorously. We have a little electric tea kettle that works great for hot water. Here is ours: https://www.houzz.com/photo/614484-kitchen-sink-2012-008jpg

I am obsessed with my Instant Hot water heater– I use it for tea and for my french press coffee every day. I also pinned all the Waterstone faucets but bought the Delta pull down because the kids have to go to college some day. Insinkerator makes matching accessories (air switch, etc) to match most of the fancy finishes out there. And depending on your layout you can mount the airswitch on the front of the sink cabinet if you aren’t worried about toddlers turning it on…

Check Overstock.com maybe? Sometimes they get some interesting items. Iā€™ve had this faucet from Home Depot in stainless steel for 7 years, no complaints. I didnā€™t install the sprayer. The stainless steel is boring šŸ™„, but was the best option at the time. They carry it in ā€œmatte goldā€ which may be lovely or an abomination. Itā€™s super cheap though and mine is heavy and substantial.

Maybe check stores in the UK or eBay? šŸ˜¬

If you insist on a kitchen sink R/O, why not get a whole house one instead? I love to spend other people’s money. Too bad your sink will not be under a window, because with some of those humongous “extendo arm faucets”, you could open your window and wash your car right from your kitchen. Multitasking at its best, especially since you have a lazy cleaning lady.
